Give The Gift Of Achievement

In 2013 the Arc of Butte County will begin its 60th year of service.

Much has changed in the past six decades, but for all of the technological advances of the age, helping children and adults with developmental disabilities is still a human-to-human endeavor. This is why we need your financial help now.
Since 1953, The Arc of Butte County has been devoted to providing services in the community for local people with developmental disabilities, and their families. The Arc has unfailingly provided high-quality advocacy, family-support programs and client services to those living in Butte and Glenn Counties.

We strive to help every one of our clients achieve a higher quality of life, filled with meaning and the ability to determine how they live, work, learn and play.

Why is The Arc an organization that deserves your immediate gift?
The Arc makes our community a better place for everyone. When people with special needs receive special types of assistance, guidance and encouragement, they become functioning members of our society. They feel better about themselves, and they require less support from the taxpayer.
• Parents of special-needs youths learn how to effectively raise their children while overcoming obstacles that might otherwise discourage them. Have you ever felt a sense of helplessness in raising your children? Imagine the difficulties facing parents with developmentally disabled children. The Arc provides the knowledge — indeed, the power — to face these issues, every day.
The need for our services is ever-expanding. We now serve over 900 individuals and their families, and we get calls daily from parents requesting our help. To respond to added demand we now provide services in three locations: Chico, Oroville, and a newly opened center in Paradise. The need is increasing as our state funding is decreasing.
• Most importantly, your gift remains in the community. It doesn’t get chewed up by top-heavy bureaucracy. Instead, every bit of the money you donate goes directly to work helping those with special needs in Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties. It’s tax-deductible, so you can feel even better about writing that check for $25, $50, $100, or as large as you can afford.
The services that the Arc provides help families cope with the day-to-day stresses that come with the care of a family member with developmental disabilities. Our Family Support Services are entirely locally funded and include a wide range of programs, such as Rainbow of Kids Clubs (for children with special needs and their siblings), respite services for family care givers, and a variety of peer support groups.
These are only a few of our very successful and popular programs, but the benefits they bring our clients are immeasurable. And they only continue to exist through the generosity of people just like you.
